Facebook has filed for a $5 billion IPO
Facebook has filed for a $5 billion IPO
Facebook’s S1 has dropped, at last. Here are some of the things that caught our eye at first. To begin, the figures on the company’s current userbase:
The Numbers
2011 revenue: 3.711 billion dollars
2011 net income: 695 million dollars
Diluted 2011 EPS: 46 cents per share
As a note, at a PE of 100, Facebook’s share’s would be priced at around 46 dollar each, given that EPS figure. Assuming that Facebook will have grown by the time it picks a price, that number will have gone up. Of course, we don’t know what sort of valuation Facebook is shooting for.
Total income from operations in 2011: 1.756 billion
Total cash and cash equivalents on hand: 3.908 billion dollars
Total liabilities: 1.432 billion dollars

HSBC paying 6% on Current Account
HSBC Bank are paying 6% on their Current Accounts for both new and existing customers. Seems the offer is limited until 31 January 2012 and balances of maximum £2500 - However, 6% it must be worth a switch.
There seems to be a spate of such accounts as banks try to grab new customers. Co-Op Bank recently paid £250 cash bonus for opening a current account.

Interim Ex-Dividend Date - Wednesday 26 October 2011
- A number of decent Interim Ex-Dividend this coming Wednesday - Harvey Nash looks an interesting prospect.
- The recruitment consultancy Harvey Nash (LON:HVN) reached a five year high of 93p in June but market volatility has since wiped 30p off the price. The global financial crisis caused a one-year blip at Harvey Nash, with its performance in the 12 months to January 2010 unsettling an otherwise impressive five year run. A return to form during 2010 helped the figures bounce back strongly and the share price responded accordingly during the first half of 2011. As a result, it hit all nine criteria on Piotroski’s screen. The company has a book value of £60.9 million against a market cap of £45.6 million. With indications that Harvey Nash is continuing to find its stride, the share price slump will be a source of frustration to CEO, Albert Ellis but perhaps an opportunity for investors.

RBS chief Stephen Hester warns bank may miss returns targets
RBS chief Stephen Hester warns bank may miss returns targets
Royal Bank of Scotland has been forced to admit it might not be able to meet its targeted return due to tougher-than-expected market conditions.
In a presentation to a conference in London on Tuesday, Stephen Hester, chief executive of the state-backed lender, said the bank's returns targets were "under review in light of challenges".
RBS is currently hoping to generate a return on equity from its core business, which constitutes the lender's ongoing operations, of in excess of 15pc by 2013. In common with other major banks, Mr Hester said it would be harder for RBS to meet its target as he ran through a range of economic and market challenges.
Among the problems identified in the presentation were interest rates being held "lower for longer", "risk aversion" among RBS's investment banking clients, and worries over the cost and availability of funding from the wholesale markets.
Return targets set by many banks at the beginning of the year have come under increasing scrutiny by investors.
Barclays, which also has a 13pc return on equity target for 2013, has robustly defended suggestions that it might not meet the goal. Bob Diamond, chief executive of the bank, said on Tuesday he was still "confident" Barclays would hit the target.

MORE PEOPLE GO ONLINE TO BANK THAN TO USE SOCIAL NETWORKS
MORE PEOPLE GO ONLINE TO BANK THAN TO USE SOCIAL NETWORKS
According to new research from Nationwide Building Society more people bank online (77%) than log on to Facebook and Twitter and other social media (58%). In fact, shopping (77%) and online banking jointly topped Nationwide's research into what consumers do online.
The TOP reasons people go online are:
- Banking (77%)
- Shopping (77%)
- Looking for holidays (65%)
- Social media (58%)
- Using auction sites such as eBay (53%)
- Downloading movies/music (36%)
The research also showed some interesting comparison between the sexes. Stereotypes would normally have people believe women shop and men handle the finances, whilst this research shows that men are actually going online to bank only a marginal amount more, with a difference of three percentage points (79% vs 76%). Similarly, women only out-shop their male counterparts by four percentage points (79% vs 75%).

FTSE 250 movers: Mixed reception as results
FTSE 250 movers: Mixed reception as results stream out
Date: Thursday 26 Aug 2010
Company updates have sent stocks both ways.
Pharmaceuticals group Hikma is in good health after saying it saw profits and revenues rise in the half year to June 30 as it strengthened its position in its core region of the Middle East and North Africa.
Russian gold miner Petropavlovsk fell into the red in the six months to June 30 after problems at its main mine led to a shortfall in production. But chairman Peter Hambro said it is still on target to achieve its annual production target of 670,000 ounces and the shares are higher.
Elsewhere in resources, Soco International is wanted. Revenues at the oil and gas group fell back in the first six months of 2010 as production declined, but the company expects development activities to lead to much higher output in coming years.
But Premier Oil’s results have been less well received. Profits soared in the six months to June 30 as the Asia-, Middle East-, North Sea- and West Africa-facing oil group ramped up output and benefited from higher prices.
Real estate advisor Savills falls after saying it remains cautious on economic conditions despite seeing a dramatic recovery in profits in the six months to June 30 as markets rebounded in the UK and Asia.

Results Round Up - 26 August 2010
Kazakh industrial metals miner Kazakhmys said it remains positive on the copper market after an improvement in prices for the red metal helped it post a sharp rise in revenues and earnings in the six months to June 30.
Revenues climbed to $1.52bn from $1.12bn over the same period a year ago, while underlying profits were up to $696m from $269m. Average copper prices climbed by 73% to $6,981. Copper accounted for more than $1bn of total revenues.
‘Our growth projects are progressing on track and we should be in a position to give significant updates by the time of our full year results,’ said chief executive Oleg Novachuk.
Full year results from Diageo showed a continuation of the improving trend seen in the Guinness brewer’s third quarter as developing markets drove overall growth , but markets in North America and Europe remained weak.
The group, famous for brands such as Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker, Captain Morgan and Baileys, said US volumes fell 2% in the year to 30 June. Organic sales growth of just 2% failed to impress.
